But the Easter eggs are already out in the shops and have been for a while. You won’t be keen on taking any Easter eggs to Corfu if you decide to spend Easter there this year though, as you are about to find out.

Of course it would probably be too hot to keep chocolate in the best of conditions. But aside from this you will have too much else to see and do while you are there. Be warned that Easter in Corfu tends to bring in the crowds so if you are seriously considering going, start looking for your accommodation and flights as soon as you can. Greece is well known for its celebration of Easter and it is very different to how we celebrate it in the UK! It will certainly be an eye opener if you haven’t been to Corfu at this time of year before.

Corfu in particular is renowned as the best place in the whole of Greece to go for Easter. Imagine a huge celebration with plenty of people taking part; indeed there is information available from many sources that state various people from all kinds of faiths are involved. This must truly be an inspiring place to be during this time of year – far removed from the excess of chocolate we tend to go for here.

Firework displays, candlelit processions and celebrations to remember for a long time to come are all part of the Easter that is celebrated in Corfu. This is indeed a wonderful time to visit the island, especially if you are eager to explore while you are there. You will probably want to escape from the crowds for a while and take the opportunity to browse around some of the smaller and quieter villages here too. What better way to complement this time of year on this Greek island?

If the commercialism of Easter gets a bit much for you at home, you now know where to head for in a few weeks from now.

Seeking Out Beautiful Villas in Corfu

Corfu is an incredibly popular place to go to for a summer holiday. It has that natural Greek charm as well as offering lots of beaches, lush greenery and much more besides to make a perfect Greek holiday for you.

One of the best places you can stay in when you arrive in Corfu is not actually an area. Instead it is a type of accommodation. While there are cheaper options to go for, a villa is undoubtedly a touch of luxury you will be glad you went for.

So why would you want to book your own villa in Corfu?

Well, one of the main advantages many people like the sound of is the fact that many of them have swimming pools you can use. Always check before you book though; don’t assume they all have as this doesn’t always ring true. On some occasions you may be required to share with other people as well. If you want a villa in Corfu with your own private pool, make sure this is stated in the information about the individual villa.

There is no doubt it can be the best option for you if you have young children with you. A family will often find it easier to opt for a villa as you have the ultimate amount of freedom. You might also want to enjoy creating your own meals rather than relying on specific times and options at a hotel.

Villas are not just for families though. If you want to travel with some friends then this could be the best option. Corfu attracts lots of parties of this nature, and it can be inconvenient to all be staying in a hotel in separate rooms. If you want to make the most of the Corfu nightlife and spend all day sleeping or lounging by the pool, a villa could be the best option for everyone.

There are lots of villas you could stay in as well, especially when you consider the scope of the island. If you are new to villa holidays, perhaps this is the best time to get started.

Planning Your Holiday in Corfu

If you have ever taken a look at a map of Corfu you will have noticed that it is a very long and thin island. The top end is fatter than the bottom and it travels down into almost a point at the southern end of the island.

It is natural to take a look at a map of the place you are thinking of going to on holiday. But the problem is that most people do this after they have made their booking. They decide where they are going and then they check out a map to see what else is close by that might prove to be good to visit.

Fortunately Corfu has lots of potential places that are going to be worthy of a visit. This is why it is well worth checking a map before you make that all important booking. When you do this you can find out the names of various places and find out what they have to offer. Some people will automatically book a holiday in one of the most popular venues on Corfu without taking the time to see what else is around in the general vicinity. But this isn’t always a good bet.

If you think about it, it could be better to consider all the options and find out whether there are some other venues on Corfu that have better attractions and venues to visit. A lot depends on the type of holiday you want. For instance if you want a beach based holiday you will want to base yourself somewhere where there is more than one beach available to try out. If you love water sports you can look for beaches that offer them instead of quieter beaches that may not have as many facilities on offer. Conversely you may prefer quieter beaches if you just want to get away from it all.

Whatever you decide to do you can probably see the advantages of checking out a map of Corfu before you book your next holiday there. A few minutes spent looking at it could lead to a better break.

Old and New Collide in Corfu

Corfu is something of an unusual Greek island when you come to think of it. It can be a delight in many different and diverse ways, but if you thought it was only good for young people looking for a great time, you would be wrong. In truth the island has plenty to offer and it is more than capable of surprising you as well.

Tourism is a major industry in Corfu, and that should tell you something about how the island appeals to people of all kinds. Some think that this is a party island and there is a degree of truth in that of course. It also offers the chance to have a modern holiday on a delightful Greek island, without worrying about whether you will be able to find enough to do and see while you are there.

But this is an island that has more than just a thoroughly modern side as well. It also has a side that reaches back into history, giving you more to see and discover during your time on the island. Take the Old Town for instance – this has a wealth of different architecture that harks back to different times in history. Tourism may be the modern way for Corfu to earn its keep, but make no mistake that some of this tourism is based on ancient times and the clues that ties those times to the modern day.

The town is often referred to as being a heady mix of several different world locations all mixed into one unique location – Corfu Town itself. There is more to discover elsewhere too – take the deserted and eerie surroundings of Old Perithia for instance. Another must see place while you are on the island, you will be glad you discovered it for yourself.

You could certainly spend your entire holiday in Corfu moving between the various beaches, bars and nightclubs. But you would be missing out on the history of the island, and this is well worth looking into to get a proper idea of where you are staying for your annual holiday.

Should You Try Out Kavos In Corfu?

Are you booking a new holiday in Corfu in the near future? If you are you’re probably wondering whereabouts you should stay in order to have the best time you can.

One area you may want to think about is Kavos. This is a resort that is towards the easternmost point of Corfu, so as you can imagine it boasts access to a great beach. Indeed ‘great’ would definitely be the right word to use – there is more than a couple miles of it in total. Finding room to lay down your towel shouldn’t be too much of a problem, even if you arrive later in the day.

This is definitely a resort for those who like a lively kind of holiday on Corfu. The beaches may be packed during the day, but at night everyone floods into the bars and clubs that the area is well known for. Indeed lots of people come to Kavos purely because of the range of bars and clubs it can offer them. If this doesn’t sound like your perfect holiday you may want to look elsewhere.

Kavos is definitely an attractive area but if you don’t like lively evenings you might find it a bit noisy for your liking. However Aghios Petros is just a mile or so away and it provides a nice alternative for those who are looking for a more relaxed holiday in this part of Corfu. As you can see there are always alternatives to consider.

One of the other attractions in Kavos is the olive groves that are plentiful here. Be sure to sample some of the local olive oil during your stay. The groves themselves are peaceful and provide a way to get some peace and quiet away from the rest of the resort.

There are plenty of water sports you can pack into any active holiday in Kavos too. As you can see this is not a relaxing holiday destination, but for those who love to party you will probably be glad you chose one of the hot spots on the island for this purpose.

Family Friendly Water Sports For Kids In Corfu

When you are heading to Corfu for a family holiday with the kids, you may well be concerned about what you will be doing with them. We all know kids get bored very easily indeed, and this is the last thing you want to happen when you are away from home.

Luckily Corfu attracts all kinds of families with kids of all ages, and this tells us a lot about how desirable the island is for children. It certainly has plenty to offer and you won’t run short of things to do there – especially when it comes to making the most of the water.

Swimming is the biggest attraction of course, and there are plenty of beaches around that have good access to the water. When you are considering where to stay in Corfu, check which beaches are close by to your accommodation and also what they are like. Some of them will be better for younger children than others. The last thing you want is a steep drop into the water with strong waves to contend with. Most adults would think twice before going into the water at such spots, let alone children!

Don’t forget the chance to go to a few rocky spots though, as this will give the kids the opportunity to explore rock pools to see what they can find. There may be water parks around to take them to, but even a few hours spent doing something as simple as this can be all they will love to do. Just don’t forget your buckets and spades!

You can also look forward to trying out banana boats and other water sports on the beach you pick. Some of the beaches are better known for their water sports than others, so don’t feel you have to stick to the same beach the whole time if you don’t want to. You could find there is an equally good one just up the road from where you are staying.

The point is not to underestimate the potential Corfu has for family holidays, particularly when it comes to enjoying the water. You can all enjoy it at the same time.

Marvellous Messonghi!

You are really spoilt for choice in Corfu when it comes to picking somewhere to stay for your holiday there. One good spot is Messonghi, which is located towards the south eastern end of the island.

If you want to head for a big resort you’ll need to give Messonghi a miss, because it certainly doesn’t rank as big in anyone’s book. However with that said you can certainly have a wonderful time here because you won’t have the same degree of crowds that come as part and parcel of the bigger resorts in Corfu. The good news is that if you do want to see the slightly busier Corfu Town while you are on the island, it’s only about fourteen miles away.

Messonghi is great for a family holiday because the swimming is safe for kids to enjoy. There are shallower areas and a beautifully long sandy beach as well, providing you with just about all you need for some all day rest and relaxation. You also don’t have to worry about nearby roads as the beach is set some distance away from the nearest road, while still being nice and easy to access. Did we mention how good this resort is for families? It’s easy to see why.

When you are feeling a bit peckish you won’t have to walk too far to find sustenance either. There are some nice and friendly tavernas along the front, just as you would expect there to be. With lots of wonderful dishes served up on a daily basis you won’t be in any doubt as to the reasons why people come here throughout the day to stave off their hunger.

It is definitely the quieter nature of Messonghi that makes it a real hit with many holidaymakers. Another reason why families love it is because traffic here is really thin on the ground. It doesn’t mean you don’t have to keep your eyes open of course, but there’s no doubt this resort has a completely different look and feel to the main venues like Corfu Town.

So if you thought Corfu was too noisy or raucous for you, think again.

How Much Will The Weather Affect Your Holiday In Corfu?

If you are planning on visiting Corfu at any point during the year, it pays to know a bit about what to expect before you book your trip. While it is nice to know what places you can visit and which beaches to frequent, the weather is another key aspect to think about. If you don’t consider it you could end up with weather that is very different to what you had expected.

Most people know that hot weather on the continent is not the same as hot weather in the UK. We tend to be plagued with much higher rates of humidity which doesn’t make life very comfortable at all.

The hottest months to visit are those that everyone tends to pick – July and August. The island will be more crowded during these months as you’ve got the summer holidays to think about. If you don’t have children and you want to visit during a quieter time, restrict your trips to the times when the kids are still at school.

Either side of this time in Corfu the weather is still lovely but a few degrees cooler as well. We’re talking about the high twenties instead of the low thirties Celcius, just to give you an idea. This might be better for you if you find excessive heat a bit too much. The good thing is that the sea will still be quite pleasant in this kind of heat. This is not the case if you decide to go earlier in May for example. It’s still nice on the island at this time of year but you’ll need to be made from sterner stuff in order to enjoy a swim in the sea at this time.

As you can see the weather can have more of an influence on your trip than you might think. It also depends on the kind of holiday you want. If you want to have a walking holiday on the island you’ll appreciate temperatures that are a degree or two cooler. However if a tan is what you want as you lie back and read a good book, hit the beaches on Corfu at the hottest time of the year and enjoy.

See Palaia Anaktora In Corfu

Corfu isn’t just about visiting every single beach you can find while you are there. You can also learn a lot about the island from wandering around its towns and villages, and seeing as much of its structure as possible. We all love a good beach but why not educate yourself about Corfu while you are there?

A classic example of the ‘other side’ of Corfu is Palaia Anaktora, although we should really refer to this as THE Palaia Anaktora. This is because the term translates to mean Old Palaces. The name is very apt since the King of Greece used to live here. Now they are no longer used by royalty, but they are still well worth seeing.

This is a cluster of buildings that are now used for various other reasons. But before you go inside some of them you should take the time to explore the exterior instead. This is a fascinating thing to do because it gives you the opportunity to look into Corfu’s past. The architecture is thoroughly Roman in nature, and gives the area a distinct look and feel. The light colour of many of the buildings gives them a breezy feel, and they are very uniform and classic looking in their appearance as well.

Since the King has gone from here, the buildings have been taken over for various other purposes. The Museum of Asian Art can be found here for example, and there is only a small fee to enter. It is well worth the chance not only to see inside the building but to witness the many treasures here as well.

And you don’t just get to see the buildings at the Palaia Anaktora either. The buildings themselves have gardens all around them, filled with flowers and providing you with a place to stop and take in more of the place. This used to be a place for royalty but now it is commonly known as a place for the people instead, and it is widely used by locals and tourists as well. Everyone realises the attractiveness of this place.

Visit Hydropolis And Expect To Get Wet

When you are bored with the beach and you want a little more action in your Corfu based holiday, give Hydropolis a try. As the name suggests we’re talking about a water park here, and although it is not the only one available to visit on Corfu, it’s worth taking a look at what it has to offer.

It is the newest of these kinds of parks in Corfu so many people have not yet experienced the many rides it has packed in. With names like the Toboggan and the Double Multi-Run, you can see that these are rides you won’t forget in a hurry.

But this is more than just a regular water park. It is more like an activity centre with water rides built in as part of the fun. For instance you will find great rides and experiences here for the kids – there is even a baby slide to get them used to the water!

You can also try out beach soccer, tennis on artificial courts and much more besides. There are also plenty of places to sit down, relax and grab a bite to eat as well if you feel peckish. The lazy river has plenty of round inflatable tyres to grab and sit in if that is the kind of lazy time you fancy. And there are also several pools you can jump in to cool off – some of which have water chutes feeding into them.

If you decide to brave some of the highest and longest water tubes in all of Hydropolis, make sure you pause for just a moment at the top to get a look at the view. It really is something and you might just spot another potentially exciting water ride to try out once you reach the bottom. You will also be able to spot the lazy river as it winds its way around the park from area to area.

It’s no wonder the Hydropolis complex has become very popular with holidaymakers in Corfu in such a short time. Which ride will you love the most when you pay a visit?

The One Chance You May Have To See Snow In Corfu

Corfu is a sun drenched island. So the idea of seeing even a snowflake during the cooler months of the year seems very unlikely indeed.

But you do have a small chance of seeing that if you visit during the right time and you make your way up Mount Pantokrator. This is the highest point on the island, soaring over nine hundred metres into the sky. As such it affords some spectacular views over the island and the sea, so if you have the determination to climb it – albeit by car ideally – the view from the top will be worth it.

As you might expect from a location such as this, you will have to be a good driver to reach the top. There are hairpin bends which take you around the mountain and closer to its summit with every turn.

One of the main reasons why people make the journey to the peak is that it is the best way to see the whole of the island from one vantage point. You may see it as you fly in at the start of your holiday, but you will certainly love the chance to see it like this as well.

Once you reach the top you will have the chance to drink in the view by stopping for a while at the café that is provided there. And if you are lucky with the weather you may even see Italy in the distance. You will need good weather conditions for this though.

As you can see it is an obvious tourist destination for those who want to see a different side of Corfu. It gives you a chance to appreciate the true size of the island and see the more populated areas as well as those which are quieter. Try and spot where you are staying and see where you might want to visit as well, as you make the most of Mount Pantokrator. You’ll be glad you made the effort to scale its heights – even if it is in a car.

Find Out Why Paleokastritsa Is So Popular With Holidaymakers

Why is this place with such a long name the most popular resort in the whole of Corfu? If you have to ask the question then you have never yet been, so let’s take a look at why you might want to put that right.

For starters it is immensely picturesque. This is the kind of venue you dream about when you think of a stunning holiday in an equally stunning part of the world. Seen from above, Paleokastritsa is a haven of deep blue sea with a pleasant sandy beach and lush green vegetation as well. The colours alone make you dream of being there, and the reality is no different since it is made to be enjoyed.

You can explore more of the waters around Paleokastritsa by hopping on board a glass bottom boat as well. After all there is no reason why you should be restricted to enjoying what you can see by snorkelling or diving. A boat trip is the ideal way to see even more.

The great thing about the main beach at Paleokastritsa is that it is very secluded. You have rocky formations either side of it so it is largely protected from the waves that you would see further out. Perhaps this is why so many families love coming here. Not only does it look good, it is safer for the kids as well.

And of course you have all the facilities you could want from a beach holiday in Corfu as well. There are showers by the beach so you can clean off after a day spent swimming and lying on the sand, and toilets are nearby as well. Put simply this is one of the best spots for getting the most out of a beach holiday. With more than one beach to explore and plenty of opportunities to go rock climbing and diving, you won’t be short of things to do.

There is a lot of accommodation here as well, but wherever you book you will be glad you chose Paleokastritsa as your holiday base.

Is Old Perithia Worth A Visit?

When you go on holiday anywhere in the world it is natural to want to see all the location has to offer. In a location like Corfu you can find many delights such as the Old Town, the port and Palaio Frourio. But there is also an abandoned village not far from Kassiopi that you might want to make time to see.

The village called Old Perithia does not have much to offer in the way of a lively atmosphere. Instead it offers the remains of a civilisation that once bustled around these streets, before the people in the village died out, never to return. There are rumours that the village may be haunted, but once you set foot in it for yourself you will probably realise why such rumours came about. Perhaps they are true, but whatever the truth may be there is certainly a unique atmosphere about this deserted place.

You can still find sustenance here though, as there are tavernas in the middle of the village itself. These have been created largely to cater for the many tourists who want to see this lost village for themselves, and they do a brisk trade particularly in the summer when Corfu is at the height of its season.

You can still see the remains of many houses and other buildings here. One has just the front remaining, with a carefully built doorway and window, beyond which lies nothing but scenery and the countryside. Some other buildings are shuttered up, the shutters themselves wearing thin and looking rather more fragile than they did when they were originally put in place.

There is no doubt that Old Perithia offers a completely different side to Corfu than you will find elsewhere on the island. Just a small handful of people still live here and make sure the village still has something to offer to the tourists who come and see it each year. It is a window into the past of the island, and one which captivates everyone who sees it.

Will it include you the next time you visit Corfu?

Why Visit Kassiopi?

If you start doing some research into which places are best to visit in Corfu, you will find the name Kassiopi popping up again and again. It seems as if lots of people have discovered this location and want to keep going back again and again.

So what can you expect from Kassiopi when you arrive there for your holiday?

One of the key aspects of the town that brings in so many people is that it has something to offer to practically everyone. You can explore the town itself, wandering in and out of the shops and bars on offer, or you can relax on the beach and watch the world go by. You will also find many essential shops and places to get cash from, which is always a bonus when you are on holiday.

There are fishermen here too who still work on a daily basis, bringing in their catch from the sea. Expect to sample some of it if you head to one of the restaurants nearby to try a mouth watering fish dish.

The harbour is something of a focal point in Kassiopi, and luckily cars and other vehicles are generally not allowed there for fear of overcrowding. This helps to ensure that the area is pleasant to visit and wander around, without fear of having to dodge cars and buses as you go.

Many people try the bars along the front and find one they like and stick to it. Others are happy to try them all but there is something to be said for having your own favourite spot to go back to time and time again. And indeed some people do just that, revisiting Kassiopi year after year.

The beach in particular is lovely and ideal for families with children. There are various water sports and boat trips you can take advantage of as well, the latter of which offers you the chance to see Kassiopi from the water.

So if you are still considering which part of Corfu to visit on holiday, consider the advantages offered by Kassiopi. It may be the last place you ever have to choose.

Have A Day Away From The Beach And Experience Aqualand

Corfu is one of the most popular Greek islands of them all. And with somewhere like Aqualand to splash down, you can be sure that the kids will love the island as much as you will.

So what is Aqualand all about? And why would you head there for a day when you have so many wonderful beaches to sample as well?

The secret lies in the fact that you can enjoy the water in a totally different way. If you love theme parks, add some water and sunshine and you’ll get the idea of what to expect when you walk through the gates of Aqualand.

For starters you might want to head for the hills if you want to see the big rides. But in this sense we’re not asking you to run in the opposite direction – heading for the hills means you’re going straight for them to try them out for yourself!

Family rafting lets you pile the whole family into a raft and take on the ride to see how wet you’ll get. The Crazy River gives you a bit more versatility, enabling you to take it on solo if no one else can quite work up the nerve to join you!

But while some of the water chutes and other rides are definitely for those with the nerve to take them on, there are calmer activities to try as well. Perhaps the best of the lot is the Lazy River. Unlike the Crazy River there is no real speed involved with this – just enjoy the experience of sitting back in a huge inflatable tyre so you can float round the park and see what else you haven’t tried yet.

Of course if you have your kids with you they might not be old enough or brave enough to tackle the big slides. But not to worry – there is a dedicated area with climbing frames, shallow pools and smaller slides for them to look forward to.

In short, there are plenty of reasons for heading away from the beach for a day when you’re staying in Corfu.

The Treats That Corfu Has to Offer

Corfu, situated in the Ionian Sea, is a Greek Island. The name of the island in English is Corfu, whereas its name in Greek is Kerkyra. The place has a total area of 600 Km sq. It is an ancient place, which is deeply connected to Greece's history and mythology. Following the conquests and battles in the past by many foreign rulers, the capital city of Corfu is surrounded by two castles. Because of the uniqueness of the capital, it was named Kastropolis by the Greek Government. Apart from this, the city also managed to get on the list of UNESCO's World Heritage Listed Sites. The temperature remains pleasant throughout the year in Corfu, as the average temperature for a year is about 22 degrees Celsius.

The landscape of the island offers 217 kms of coastline. The island features lots of tourist places, and is an attraction for many people from around the world. Corfu offers many exciting things to see and do, such as Mirtiotissa Beach, Aqua land, Kassiopi, the Grotto Boat Tour, and the Museum of Ancient Art. Mirtiotissa Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Corfu, and the best thing about the beach is that it is not crowded with shops; it's quiet, and the water on the beach is very clear. Aqua land is an aquatic park and is one of the largest in Europe. The park offers lots of beautiful blue pools and a wide range of water slides.

Kassiopi is a tiny village in Corfu, which was built in the ancient times and is known for its atmosphere and the locals hospitality - and also its food. Costas Bar at Kassiopi is one preferred place for enjoyment. Any tour to Corfu is incomplete without the Grotto Boat Tour; the journey starts at Paleokastritsa, and shows four grottos. Two of the grottos are the major attractions, one where the seabed is pink (because of pink stones) and the other one displaying a blue light spot in the water, and is known as The Blue Eye.

Apart from all the abovementioned places, there are many more villages that are a draw-card for every tourist visiting the Island; these places include Paros, Naxos, Rhodes, Crete, Santorini and Mykonos. Santorini has an active volcano, which first erupted back in 1500 B.C, and it is said that the eruption from the volcano sank the centre portion of the island. For the tourist who loves to eat and try new things, Corfu is one place that may suit them, as there are a variety of drinks and dishes offered. Apart from this, Toga parties are multi-cultural events that are held on the Island, giving it the atmosphere of times long gone. The different kinds of olives, jewellery and leather are few things that one can purchase to capture few of the best memories of this Greek Island. A combination of fun, peace, tradition, party, and food is what defines Corfu. Corfu does not lack anything in comparison with other Greek islands.

For more information click here

Croatia's Korcula 'the new Corfu'

The stunning Croatian island of Korcula has been deemed 'the new Corfu' by the one of the UK's most-respected travel journalists.

Writing for the Guardian, Annabelle Thorpe described Korcula's beaches, hills and "elegant" old town as being at least on a par with those found on the popular Greek island.

What's more, the Croatian island benefits from being outside the eurozone, meaning travellers get more for their money.

Ms Thorpe wrote: "There are vineyards for wine-tasting, walking and cycling trails and a far less developed feel than its Greek equivalent.

"Best of all, the Croatian kuna goes much further."

She added that all visitors to the island should sample the local dish of garlic mussels served with "a glass or two" of the region's white wine, posip.

Earlier this month, the Times newspaper reported that the Adriatic paradise Montenegro was fast-becoming 'the new Monaco', as it continued to attract the world's rich and famous.

For more information click here

Mediterranean's party islands

Craving a sun-and-sea summer holiday destination where you can also party the night away? Travel website TripAdvisor.

com has come up with a list of the top 10 islands in the Mediterranean sea - all with pristine beaches, their own unique features and dancing all night long, said TripAdvisor spokeswoman Michele Perry.

1. Cyprus. Beaches are the draw for many visitors to the island in the eastern Mediterranean but so is the nocturnal activity with Ayia Napa being the town to party in.

2. Corfu, Greece. Corfu features a lush green landscape and serene, white beaches. Visit a Venetian fortress, or relax under an olive tree, before enjoying the vibrant nightlife. According to a TripAdvisor traveller: "Nightlife in Corfu should just be called morning life."

3. Crete, Greece. The island features a plethora of historical attractions including Knossos and Phaistos and spectacular scenery in Samaria Gorge.

4. Santorini, Greece. Dramatic cliffs overlook a stunning caldera. Watch the breathtaking sunset in Fira, then head to the bars and nightclubs for an all-night extravaganza, emerging in time to view the sunrise.

5. Mykonos, Greece. Perhaps best known for its nightlife, Mykonos attracts famous DJs and partygoers. Rejuvenate the next morning by strolling through the town and dining at a local taverna.

6. Ibiza, Spain. It's known as a party capital where you can join the thousands of revellers at Privilege, the largest club in the world.

7. Sicily, Italy. Have a drink at the Abaco Bar housed in an old Majorcan manor house.

9. Capri, Italy. Off the coast of the Sorrentine Peninsula, Capri is an island of magical scenery. Take a boat through the not-to-be-missed Blue Grotto, a beautiful sea cave, apparently once used by Roman emperors as a personal bath.

10. Malta. Steeped in culture and history, Malta also features beautiful beaches and secluded coves, making the island feel like paradise.

For more information click here

Scuba Diving in Corfu

Scuba diving in Corfu- Paleokastritsa/ Ermones with Achilleon diving centre. (He makes a double lot on Saturday) Instead of coffee, most locals drink whisky, ouzo or beer - and it is only 8am.

One Big Party

Hi i am back from kavos a couple of weeks now & i miss it so much! Although it is small, it is worth visiting particularly to see the pediment from the Temple of Artemis that is housed there. The temple dates from 590 BC and is south of Corfu Town. The pediment on display in the museum features a Medusa and is regarded as a fine example of archaic sculpture. The museum has some other interesting sculptures too.

Widest Ever Holiday Destination Choice From Bristol International

Bristol International is today launching its widest ever range of Summer holiday getaways in its brand new Summer 2006 Holiday Guide. Kalamata, well known for its olives and honey, offers sandy beaches in the Messinian bay, easy access to the Southern Peleponese region, and is only a short drive away from Ancient Messini and Olympia. For fans of traditional culture, the town also hosts an annual International Dance Festival every July, which attracts participants from all over the world.

Tony Hallwood, Bristol International's Aviation Development Director said: 'Now is the time to book your holidays and flights from Bristol International as many operators are currently offering great discounts, especially at the time of the World Cup. But seats on flights are selling fast, with our new exciting Greek destination of Kalamata already proving incredibly popular, so my advice is to book now to get the best deal.'

3.3 million passengers are expected to fly from Bristol International between May and October this Summer, a rise of 9% on Summer last year. The most popular holiday destinations this year are Greece, Cyprus, Spain and the Balearic Islands including Majorca, Ibiza and Menorca. The busiest months are generally July and August though June and September prove popular with many bars and clubs opening and aren't quite as packed out as the summer holiday months.

This is certainly a resort for those wishing to party the night away and sleep off the after effects on the long sandy beach which does have beautiful views across to mainland Greece. These include jet-skiing, wind surfing, para-gliding and many more. It is always a wise choice to ensure that you are fully insured for any of these as your usual travel insurance may not cover you adequately for certain activities you may wish to take part in.

If you aren't feeling too worse for wear after all the partying in Kavos, there are many excursions to choose from. The culture vultures should certainly head for the capital of the island, Corfu Town where there is a variety of archaeological sites to feast the eyes upon. For those wanting something a little bit more tranquil, the countryside in inland Corfu is well worth a visit, it stays remarkably peaceful throughout even the peak season and gives a rare insight into the 'real' Corfu.

But for the party people amongst you, the waterparks and beach parties are a must to keep the party atmosphere alive and excursions run frequently from Kavos to the Aquaparks.

Eating Out in Kavos

For those wanting a taste of the real Greek cuisine you will most likely be hard pushed to find it in Kavos, although it is easy enough to hop into a taxi and get across to one of the nearby resorts that offer not only a quieter pace of life but a chance to sample Greek food at its best.

For those wishing to simply grab something on the go before hitting the clubs, the beach or the waterparks, Kavos is the place! This can be down to inexperience, a tragic accident or people simply not taking the correct safety precautions whilst abroad.

Taking adequate safety measures and using mopeds only when safe to do so will certainly help, though many organisations don't recommend them at all.Hiring a car is usually a great way of getting around the area, though seeing as the majority of travellers to this resort are the 18-25 crowd, don't forget that many hire companies may add extra insurance for those under 21 and you must have held a license for a certain amount of time before hiring abroad.

Remember there are severe drink driving regulations abroad too!Kavos is easy enough to navigate on foot or for after a particularly heavy night, taxis are frequent and not too overpriced.

Shopping in Kavos

There are a large number of souvenir shops in Kavos, selling the usual tourist favourites such as water inflatables, T shirts and some fake designer labels. These are dotted around the resort but many are within walking distance to the main nightlife area and beach. These usually work out well priced for 4 or more sharing although obviously will get higher priced in peak season.

Families are catered for although the general consensus would be for families to stay in the quieter areas, most operators have realised this and usually aim to build more family friendly properties in the less built up areas. The best time to travel for the sun enthusiasts and the die-hard clubbers is almost certainly July and August as there is so much going on including beach parties and even some big name dj's visiting to play in the peak season.

May and October are good months for those on a budget as the packages and flights will be cheaper (particularly in May) and the weather is still pretty reliable. Bear in mind in October though if you are looking for clubs, many of them do begin to close down (some of them mid September) so make sure you know what to expect.Whenever you choose to travel, there is plenty of fun to be had in Kavos!

Not for the Squeamish!

One of the most popular (if a little hair-raising!) activities in Kavos is the wonderful world of bungee jumping and catapulting. Many party towns around the Med have bungee facilities but many say Kavos is the favourite. Obviously not for the faint hearted but good fun all the same.

Catapulting is a similar theme but basically involves a bungee jump in reverse, not dropped from a height but fired into the air! These both operate day and night so plenty of time for everyone to have a try!A word of caution though - make absolutely sure that you are fully insured and all safety precautions have been taken. Most UK travel insurers do not cover you for such an activity so make sure you take out insurance there and then.

Popular Holiday Resorts in Corfu

Ipsos

Ipsos is situated just north of Dassia on the coast road. It has a narrow shingle beach that runs the whole length of the resort, with a variety of watersports on offer. Across the road there are many tavernas, bars and discos, and there's always plenty of action along the strip in high season. By day, the beach is full of tanned bodies recovering after the night before. The adjacent village of Pyrgi makes a rather quieter base, yet it's still within easy walking distance of all the delights of Ipsos.

Kalami

Kalami is considered to be one of the most tranquil beauty spots in Corfu. Kalami is a horseshoe-shaped bay, surrounded by olive groves and rich vegetation on its hills. Kalami, with a rare beauty of the Greek uniqueness of nature, is nestling on the shores of the crystal clear Ionian Sea, offering the ideal setting for a holiday.

Sidari

Sidari is a developed resort that has combined a couple of small former fishing villages. It is still growing and is very popular with British visitors. Sidari is a resort suited to those looking for a popular lively place with plenty of bars and tavernas. The resort is located on the north coast of Corfu, set on Sidari Bay and is surrounded by fertile hills.

Kavos

On Corfu's southern coast, Kavos is the liveliest of the resorts and proves incredibly popular with the 18-30 crowd within the UK. The beach also offers a good range of watersports for those who can manage something a little more energetic during the hours of daylight!
